The name of bridge commonly called after the incident occurred in year 2011 a group of children in conjunction with some elderly people, were capturing an insect, which is a delicacy of the local tribal people and called Tari (Gandhi Puk) in local dialect, with mosquito nets when the bridge collapsed because of excessive load.

Around 30 people, most of them children of age group 10-15 years were drowned within the swift Kameng river at Seppa when an old wire rope suspension footbridge over it collapsed at Seppa Township in East Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh around 5:30 pm in October 2011.

The town is 380 km west of capital Itanagar. The bridge and 197 km from Tezpur.

According to the then Superintendent of Police, East Kameng Mr. Kime Aya said about 60 70 youngsters gathered on the bridge to collect a sort of insect considered a local delicacy (Gandhi Puk). This insect usually hovers over water bodies around this point of the year.

A body and rescued 27 boys and girls recovered till the time 08:30 pm. Local people were assisted the police and CRPF personnel in rescuing others.

However, local claimed around five bodies were recovered downstream of the spot where the incident occurred and collapsed.

According to Mr. K. Tungi, a Tourism Information Officer who lives near the accident site told that this footbridge was quite old one and on the day of incident, all of them were very young boys and girls.
