Rabon Dah- According to Ramayana in Hindu mythology, the significance of burning the Ravana effigies on Dussehra in Bongaigaon as well as in India. The festival marks the triumph of sunshine over darkness. Ravan Dahan is the ritual of burning effigies of the demon king Ravana, his son Meghnath, and brother Kumbhakaran. The ritual is performed on the day of Dussehra or Vijayadashmi throughout the Country. The festivities are celebrated in specific methods throughout India. The Ravan Dahan celebrates the day while Lord Rama killed Ravana. The festival marks the celebration of sunshine over darkness.


Significance of Ravan Dahan on Dusshera or Vijayadashmi is an essential Hindu festival celebrated throughout the India. The festival is celebrated with the conventional ardour, devotion, and exuberance through the human beings. Villages and towns are lit up with shiny and colourful lights, symbolizing the significance of light in human being's life.

Ravan Dahan is an important a part of the festival because it represents symbolic imagery of darkness dropping to light. After devoting Nine days of Navratri for offering prayers to Maa Durga, on the day of Dusshera or Vijayadashmi an effigy of Ravana is burned. The epic Ramayana has said that on the day Vijayadashmi, Lord Rama killed Ravana. The concept of symbolizing Lord Rama's victory over Ravana has added upon the culture of burning effigies of Ravana. Various cultural programmes also are performed in lots of parts of the country for human beings to enjoy, recreation and happiness. Many locations even have a tradition of enacting the tale of Ramayana in a drama layout earlier than burning Ravana's effigy.

Every year, in this Immersion Ghat Ravana effigy is built. The effigy is 20-30 feet tall and required over almost 3 days to build. It takes 3 hours to finish the Ravana effigy.


✔  Bongaigaon Immersion Ghat - In every year, there are two times every puja committees used to immerse the Pratima (Dev-Devi Murti) especially in the time of Durga Puja and Maa Kali Puja. In the time of Durga Puja there's always Rabon Dah is performed by the management committee of the Immersion Ghat. Almost every year 200+ Pratimas immersed here.
